Subject: possible lead on extraneous speech

possible lead on extraneous speech

From: Barrett, Don <Don.Barrett_at_ed.gov>

Before the extraneous speech began recently on the Ipod video 30-gig
unit, , when I came to the end of my list of files in the root folder,
the Ipod would correctly spell out the name of the rockbox.ipod folder,
then say root, and then again cycle through my files and folders. As
long as the rockbox.ipod folder was spelled correctly, all was well.

Now, instead of spelling out rockbox.ipod, extraneous nonsense letters
are spoken which begins the sequence where numerous menu items are read
while still in the root folder. I found though that after deleting the
three .mark files in my root folder, the extraneous speech is much
diminished, and only occurs for a few seconds when I scroll over the
name of the rockbox.ipod folder which no longer spells correctly as
mentioned above.

I added more bookmarks and the extraneous speech went wild, and
increased significantly all beginning with the incorrect spelling of the
rockbox.ipod folder name. Again, after deleting the .mark files, the
extraneous speech was greatly diminished, though the rockbox.ipod folder
was still incorrectly spelled.
