True, but my understanding is that that is actually turning the unit off.
I realise that I might be trying to pursue a wonderful "perfect" solution to
a problem for which there already exist at least two easy sensible
workarounds, but hey... ;)
Here's another idea: would it be possible to put a "Stop" command in the
main Rockbox menu?

Anyway, better go now, I've got to help my assistant with his attempts to
turn lead into gold. ;)

And to stop music on the iPod, you hold the Play/Pause button for ~1-2
seconds.
