Hi Melissa,
If I remember, you said that you downloaded the hex file, and patched it
with the RockBox patch.
Then the next step is to put the patched hex file onto the root, and then
comes the flashing step.
You need to enter the menus, with sighted assistance, or use the Blind
flashing steps, which tells how many arrows to push.
I can find it if you wish.
But if you have sighted assistance, you enter the menus, right arrow once,
and down arrow to
"flash firmware"
Then this will take a few minutes, and the player will shut itself off, and
you will re-boot it all flashed.
You should read the Blind flashing, if you haven't yet.
HTH
Glenn

Thanks again. Your help is definitely appreciated. I will tell you what I
did and you can tell me if that was really what I should have done, or if I
missed a step. I did a firmware upgrade, but don't know if that is the same
thing as flashing.

I downloaded a daily build since the manual said that there was not yet a
stable release of Rockbox for the Iriver. the name of the file I downloaded
was
rockbox-h300-20060911.zip
I unzipped the contents of that folder to the root directory of my player.
If I still need to flash it let me know. I thought that just patching the
firmware and then upgrading it would do the trick. thanks again! Your
suggestion was helpful.
