Hi Melissa you wrote:

Thanks again. Your help is definitely appreciated.
Your most welcome but since your player is still not rocking don't thank us
yet! LOL!

I will tell you what I
did and you can tell me if that was really what I should have done, or if I
missed a step. I did a firmware upgrade, but don't know if that is the same
thing as flashing.

Yes if you updated the firmware from the jukebox menu that is the same as
flashing the player

I downloaded a daily build since the manual said that there was not yet a
stable release of Rockbox for the Iriver. the name of the file I downloaded
was
rockbox-h300-20060911.zip

Good!
I unzipped the contents of that folder to the root directory of my player.
If I still need to flash it let me know. I thought that just patching the
firmware and then upgrading it would do the trick. thanks again! Your
suggestion was helpful.

That sounds correct. The only thing I am now wondering is if you patched
the correct firmware for your player. When your player is attached to the
USB and you open up the root directory do you see rocbox related folders on
it? The first one should be .rockbox
If you don't then your player is not flashed. I suggest you start over by
going to:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/QuickStart#Installing_Rockbox

Another link on that page that tells you how to install the rockbox boot
loader:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/ManualRockboxInstall#iriver_jukeboxes

I am going to hit the sack now but I would be happy to help you tomorrow
night if you are still havingn trouble.
