I've been poking into this, because the battery life expectations when
playing video are substantially different between the 60GB 5G and the
80GB 5.1G:

Though it /looks/ like it's still the same hardware, I suspect (short of
some unbelievably hefty firmware optimizations) there are some hardware
differences between the two. Though not enough to frustrate 'porting'
the Rockbox over to the new player.
