Hello Carl,
I just went through the installation of the Rockbox software this weekend
and after a bit of a learning curve I got it up and running. It works
great.
The thing that got me was the resetting into UMS mode. You need to hold
down the next button while turning on the player. I had a difficult time
finding the next button while not having any sighted peopel around during
the weekend.

You should be able to set it up by yourself no problems. Once you turn on
the player with the new software, you'll want to press the power button
briefly and it should put you into the menus. You can then move around
with your scroll bar to hear all of the options. Make sure you read the
rockbox installation before proceeding. You'll also need to put in the
voice file for the speech on the player to work. The recording
capabilities and FM tuner are not yet supported, but everything else is.
It also gives you added functionality. You can listen to OGG, Flac, wave
and various others as well as MP3 of course.
Regards,
Martin
