Hi Michael,
I am not sure exactly which button it is, probably the top one, but at any rate, you should press and hold the Record button before and during the On button for the period that it is booting up.

Are you talking about the button over the a b button?

That is the only button I see at the top right of the buttons. Also do I hold that down for a few seconds and then release and then hit the on button?

The button is located on the pannel of buttons of the player, on the top right hand corner, above the repeat button.
