Thanks so much for your insight.

I am helping a friend off-list to install Rockbox onto what we believe is a 4G. In error, I recently have pointed her to a latest build of the 4G Rockbox firmware, which I fear will not allow for voice readout.

I know it's been said here that the Aug. 5 build is the latest for iPod Video that will speak--(I have the iPod Video 30 GB). But what is the most recent date that one can expect to work right for the 4G?

Thanks so much.

  Hello:

That system will not work any more since August 5.

Go to the daily builds and download the associated voice file which is listed with your particular configuration file.

  Hope this helps.

OK, I know this issue may have been addressed before. But I'm struggling with Rockbox on the iPod Video. I've followed all the instructions I know about: I've loaded the Rockbox daily build of Aug. 6, and have loaded the July 29 Reed voice that Andre offered, after having renamed it English.Voice. The bootloader works, I can switch back and forth between Rockbox and the original firmware, and everything appears to be unzipped to the right place. But no voice.

How can I tell if the voice is set to come on at startup? Is there a step I forgot to perform to set this option? I'd rather not have to uninstall everything and start again from scratch.
