The iPod 30 gig video surely does work with rockbox.
What voices are you using?
I would say use the august 5th build and the july 29th voices with all the
voice issues going on at the moment.
I pasted the voices link in the email about installing rockbox on the x5.
But i assumed you installed the boot loaoder correctly?
What build and where did you get the voices?
