Evolution on Ubuntu Linux comes preconfigured to top-post as well. I
assume this is because fully bottom-posting is silly: It's more spammy
than top-posting. And proper quoting with responses can't be automated.
So the "best" two options are not quoting at all (requiring the user to
manually paste bits in) or top-posting (meaning that if the user does
nothing, at least the post follows the reply so as not to intrude, but
if the user so chooses it's very easy to trim and use contextually).

Top posting really is the most efficient default, without a doubt in my
mind. It's just not particularly useful or efficient in the context of
this list, and not something I'd ever use unless as mentioned there were
a valid reason to have an entire log of the conversation within a single
message.
