Good news update -

Wow - yesterday was bad. Today has improved a lot, though. Just
remembered a backup I did at work which had the old .rockbox files.
Got those onto the player and now it works -

Still wondering why the native system is hanging on the "scanning file
system" screen. Any ideas?
