Yes, I have the problem frequently. I listen to a lot of talk podcasts and audiobooks, for hours at a time, and they freeze up all the time. Because I might go several hours at a time, I have no way to track down exactly which files it's locking up on. It's quite frustrating to reboot and find my place again all the time. This seems to be something peculiar to the ipod 80 version.

Have you tried turning on th e bookmark feature?
If it is on, you can boot up and go to "recent bookmarks" and select the first one, and pick up where you left off.
