Because I might go several hours at a time, I have no way to track down
exactly which files it's locking up on. It's quite frustrating to reboot
and find my place again all the time.

 Have you tried turning on th e bookmark feature?
 If it is on, you can boot up and go to "recent bookmarks" and select the
first one, and pick up where you left off.

Yes, I use the bookmarking feature extensively. That's what originally
brought me to Rockbox. The problem is that when it freezes the bookmarks
aren't updated because you have to reboot -- I'm starting over at the same
place I started last time before the freeze.
