This is not entirely true. The voice file _needs_ to be named
"/.rockbox/langs/english.voice" (for the english voice file). The
downloaded file also includes the player model and timestamp in the
filename. If you don't adjust the filename correctly it will _not_
work.

Resetting the Ipod works by pressing Menu + Select, which is the
topmost and the middle button of the clickwheel. The buttons you
mentioned (Select + Play) will trigger emergency disc mode when held
upon powerup.
