Subject: Very disappointed with my iAudio X5

Very disappointed with my iAudio X5

I guess there are two purposes for this message: firstly, to inform other
Rockboxers looking for DAPs of my experiences with an iAudio X5; and
secondly, in case I'm actually doing something wrong, and somebody can
correct me/provide more information.

(1) The iAudio's built-in microphone is a lot less stellar than that of the
iriver H340, and it only has two possible gain values. The loudest is
hardly sufficient for recording quiet material.

(2) The iriver H340's line-in jack provided plugin power as well as the
ability to record at quite a loud level, meaning that I could connect my
binaural microphones to the H340's line in jack without a preamp. I cannot
do this on my iAudio X5; even with a battery box, for plugin power, it is
far too quiet and I am guessing I need apreamp.

(3) Many of the Rockbox codecs do not appear to be optimized for use on the
iAudio X5. FLAC files, for example, play with much stuttering and loading
of the hard drive.

Well, I just spent a pile of money on this thing and am extremely miffed.
