I don't understand: Why is security so critical? Bluetooth pairing,
while not terribly secure, ought to be secure enough to use within your
home. The only data you should be transferring is audio files. And
bluetooth allows pairing with headphones and microphones, very useful
with a DAP.

Meanwhile, if you need security, anything wireless will never be as
secure as simply connecting a wire, or transferring via an SD card.
Since you'll want the hardware off to save power whenever not actually
intending to transfer, you don't have to worry about someone hijacking
or snooping on your device when you're not looking, anyway.
