Your player is not bricked.

If you in fact did reformat both partitions of the player then recovery mode
is broken and you MUST resort to using the "manufacturer mode". However scary
it might look or sound.

This is also the reason why we try to make it perfectly clear in all Rockbox
documentation that you should never ever format your sansa.
