Unfortunately, I'm not sure how you can manage this other than trying different combinations of OS X version and BL_SD_BoardSupported.rom. If (when?) USB supported is added to the Rockbox bootloader, you would be able to use that instead of the BL_SD_BoardSupported.rom file. Unfortunately, currently the USB support in Rockbox suffers from the same symptoms on OS X. So, your best bet would be to try again on a different (preferably Linux) system.
