You could at least use the same Subject, even if the Follow-Up headers are
not kept intact. Many mail programs are able to thread based on subject in
the absence of follow-up data.

One other possibility - does your mail program save a copy of outgoing
mail in a Sent Items folder? If so, replying to this mail may give you the
required data for the followup information to be set correctly to continue
the threading.
