Are you by any chance turning on Rockbox with the 'reset the settings'
switch? E.g. on ipod, if you boot Rockbox with the hold switch in the
'Hold' position, it will reset the settings when Rockbox launches.
Different makes/models use a different key or switch to reset settings
automatically on boot.
