I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that the spindown behaviour
of the drive is stored in the drive firmware itself and that you can set
it (permanently) somewhere in the windows drive settings (power
management perhaps).

AFAIK the drive suffers more from every spin up/down cycle than from
running constantly for longer periods.
