I just came back from India and had an idea I wanted the
groups input on. I am after a cheap durable MP3 player to
help educate people, specifically in poorer countries. Here would be the
specs. Does anyone know of such a device

1)
Holds up to 3GB

2)
Can be recharged by a hand crank

3)
Has a screen

4)
Under $15

These guys have a lot of mp3 players, but I'm quite certain none of them will do Rockbox. In bulk the prices come down:

They also have different kinds of chargers like solar and crank.

If you want to have a way of autoloading Rockbox, you may want to consider useing a Linux distro and have someone write a script to mount, load, and unmount. All you'd have to do is plug in and wait for the computer to "beep" you to swap in a new device. Unfortunately I don't have the skills to do something like this.
