A reason for not using top-posting is that it's better to only quote
the part of the message you are answering to, so the background to your
answer is present before your answer.

For me it's much easier to read, because if I already know the
background I can just skip the lines beginning with "> ", which my mail
client shows in a different color.

If you're blind I think you could skip them using the "> ", provided
the writer used this "standard" quoting (I am not sure if it is really
a standard or just a convention across the majority of mail clients).
