they don't even notice the difference.

Heh. I've been doing mailing list stuff for a long, long time;
literally, decades. I've seen probably a couple of dozen mailing lists
have this pointless discussion about top-vs-bottom posting (and the
other perennial favorite, HTML vs plain text). My conclusion after all
this time is that that sort of whining is not much different from
whining about where people put their braces in source code. If you are
one of those whiners, I'm sure you have in your own mind a solid
rationale for one way or the other (likewise for the source code braces
argument). Mainly, though, you are complaining that people are doing
something different from what you do, whether or not it's spelled out in
some arbitrary list posting guidelines. No matter what your rationale
(and I've read a bunch of them looking for something compelling), it
actually makes very little practical difference in your understanding of
the content of messages. Sure, there are some messages that are a
jumbled mess, but that's pretty much independent of top-vs-bottom.
Spend your time complaining about those messages (or ignore them).

If you're complaining about top-vs-bottom posting, per se, you are just
being intolerant. Stop wasting everybody's time with it. Seriously. I
used to be one of you, but I got better. (Just don't let me putting
your braces in the wrong place. On that one I'm sure I'm right. :-)
