I was wrong: The rips certainly are 48 kHz, not 96 kHz. 48 kHz are
played fine with RB v3.3.

Could it be that rockbox was capable of playing 96 kHz Sounds, too, if
the CPU was running at a higher speed? Maybe rockbox is slowing it down
too much in this case for saving power?
