Once it is installed, Cygwin works reasonably well with screen readers.
It's no worse than working with the Windows command prompt. However,
the Cygwin setup/installer is pretty filthy once you get to the point
where you want to select which packages to install. There's virtually
no keyboard support and almost everything must be done by mouse
emulation and by guessing which graphics to click on. It is very
helpful to have someone indicate which graphics are for scrolling and
the scroll graphics change depending on if the mouse is hovering over
them or not so it can be tricky to get them labelled correctly. I have
JAWS .jgf and .jcf files for the Cygwin setup utility if JAWS is your
screen reader, but there's no guarantee the labelled graphics will work
for you unless you're using a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 with a
colour depth of 32 bits. Going into great detail here is probably
somewhat off-topic for this list. If you decide to go the Cygwin root,
feel free to contact me off-list.

Cheers,
Andrew.
