Now I tested the behaviour after disabling the fading options and it did not flicker!
So I assume, the bug must be somewhere in the fading code.
Maybe it somehow "records" the number of track changes which occured since
the hold and tries to replay the missed "backlight on" tasks after hold has been
released again.
This would also explain why it does not happen when pausing -
there's no track changing during pause :-)
