I did the original patch for this, and Sideral then picked it up and
improved it. I've been using it for a few months now, mostly in
combination with car mode while listening to audio books, and
in practice it is a very nice feature to have.

I originally did not have the rewind on manual (pressing the pause
button), but added it at Sideral's suggestion. It works better than
I anticipated: listening to an audio book while doing household
chores and my wife asks me something, the rewind recovers the
gap between removing the 'phones and pressing pause.
