FS#11779 - IPod 5G sometimes read a lot from the harddisk and run out of memory

My Ipod is a 30GB 5G
I have a problem since Rockbox 3.7 and it is that sometimes, rockbox went crazy and start a read a lot and run very slowly (because the 90% of the CPU is reading) and I don’t know why and/or what is reading. Time later, the Ipod shutdowns becouse the battery went from 70-80% for example to 0%, and it isn’t a battery problem and i’m going to explay why i know that the battery is OK.

Sometime later of use rockbox 3.7 and don’t found a solution to my problem, i downgrade to 3.6 version and since that i don’t have any problems more. But I whant 3.7.1 version! :P
I don’t have tried with 3.7.1 version because I have see the changelog and I don’t see the bug solved OR THE BUG REPORTED :S

I have experiment with the BUG and It’s more probable that the rockbox starts to read a lot if the playlist is big (20 songs for example) and/or if the songs are in diferent directories. The bug doesn’t appear all the time and I don’t know what is exactly going wrong :S.

Thanks for the help.

PD: Sorry for the bad english :P

we need some more information.
when does rockbox do this reading, does it keep reading the disk after starting and nevers top or does it start atfer a while?
what do you do when it starts?
please attach your config.cfg file

It starts reading sometimes (not allways, i don’t know what is the think that’s doing to the ipod reading a lot) just when I load a long playlist (18-22 songs or more) specially when the songs are in several folders, and it keeps reading all the time (and of course, running very slowly).

When it starts i was making a playlist and, when i have it ready, I turn the HOLD button to “HOLD” and i didn’t do anything more.

PD: Sometimes it get’s frezee when i do fastforwarding or rewinding :S

I attach my config file

Thanks for all.

This might just be caused by playback/dsp cpu starving the buffering thread.
Try using fewer bands on the EQ and maybe disabling stereo width.

(Decreasing your EQ precut by 1dB and decreasing your EQ gains by 1dB each would give you similar sound but using only 3 bands instead of 5)

Ok, I will try it some time and report with the results, but.. why i don’t have this problem with Rockbox 3.6? :S If it is working wrong on 3.7 it souldn’t work worng too in 3.6?

I think that i have solved the problem

SOLUTION:

Backup files from the rockbox folder that aren’t involved in the system (Example: Roms, saves, music,…)
Delete all the rockbox folder.
Do a FULL 3.7.1 install.
Problem solved

I have been testing the new full instalation (not update from 3.6 to 3.7) during december 2010 and it works perfect.

Thanks for all people ;)
