I've been trying to get all outstanding translation patches merged, but from what I can tell all of the changes referenced in this ticket are already merged.

If I'm closing this in error, please re-open..

Where are these translations from?

My intensive 5 years of studying portuguese, plus speaking many times.

Although I’m a native Portuguese from Portugal speaker, and thus I shouldn’t really interfere with pt-BR things, I took a look at the patch and I can confirm all the sentences are correct.

I corrected (manually, edited the diff file) very small things: the capitals at the start of some sentences were missing. Nothing more.

By the way, and related to these pt-PT and pt-BR differences, some new laws are taking effect on all the Portuguese-speaking countries which involve standardization of speaking between the two languages. Most differences between the two speakings will be lost.
Although I can’t say I like these new laws (e.g. you’ve always written “actualmente” (pt-PT) and it’s going to be “atualmente” (pt-BR), you almost have to learn to write again), they are to be followed obligatorily and in 2013 correct Portuguese (whether it’s in Barzil, Portugal or any other Portuguese-speaking country), will be the one considered in these new laws. Obviously, when it comes to information technologies, I think that what will happen is that pt-BR and pt-PT will be one only language (pt) in most platforms, let’s see what other open source projects do and then we must decide what do do on Rockbox.

Attached goes the diff with the capitals corrected. And thanks to harry hu for his/her effort in learning Portuguese ;)

I originally learned portuguese for the purpose of fun. Being blind, I love to play games online designed specifically for the blind. A new title had come out, and I really wanted to play it. The trouble? It was written completely in portuguese. I soon met some native speakers, and, speaking spanish, was able to reasonably communicate with them. Speaking both pt-pt and pt-br is something I’ve had to learn. In my speech, you can slightly hear a bit of pt-pt but generally I try to speak the dialect of portuguese of the person I am talking to. I’m not going to be very happy when these new laws you’re talking about take effect (I haven’t heard anything about them), but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
