FS#5053 - Terminus unicode fonts

This is clean and nice (imo the best) freely (GPL-2) availible unicode fonts.
Now it contains 690 characters, covering code pages ISO8859-1/2/5/9/13/15/16, IBM-437/852/855/866, KOI8-R/U/E/F, Windows-1250/1251/1252/1254/1257, Paratype-PT154/PT254, Bulgarian-MIK, Macintosh-Ukrainian, Esperanto and many others (a total of about 110 language sets). Also included are the IBM VGA, vt100 and xterm pseudographic characters.

The sizes present are 6×12, 8×14, 8×16, 10×20, 12×24, 14×28 and 16×32. The styles are normal and bold (except for 6×12), plus EGA/VGA-bold for 8×14 and 8×16.

Can you create package with the fonts in BDF format?

Project Manager

ah, nevermind, I found the source archive has the BDF ones:

Adding all these Terminus fonts add about 110K to the rockbox.zip package. Any opinions from others about them?

I’m in for this. We need decent unicode fonts, if only there were also another set of proportional fonts :-D

No ISO 8859-8 (Hebrew) support.

yes, it is written:
The character set covers ISO8859-1/2/5/9/13/15/16, IBM-437/852/855/866,
Windows-1250/1251/1252/1254/1257, KOI8-R/U/E/F, Paratype-PT154/PT254,
Bulgarian-MIK, Macintosh-Ukrainian and Esperanto, and also the vt100 and
xterm pseudographics characters.

I know; I’m just saying that a unicode font in the core distribution should support all relevant codepages.
(AFAIK there’re more people who speak Hebrew than /Esperanto/ :)

Maybe the original font maker didn’t have 8859-8 support, so we should let him/her know what’s missing.

You’re actually implying we shouldn’t include any fonts that don’t support Hebrew? Or whatever “all relevant codepages” mean.

If so, I trust you’ll volounteer to edit them.

BTW, I bet there are even more people who speak lots of those asian languages that aren’t supported by these fonts either. Should we then not consider them until someone adds the missing couple of thousands glyphs?

Many single/dual codepage fonts obviously don’t support Hebrew (or Greek, for that matter) and that’s fine;
I think that if this is going to be the major /unicode/ font in RB, it should support as many codepages as possible.

I don’t have any artistic background, but if the original font has more codepages, it should be easy to add support for them too.

And yes, I want Hiragana/Katakana support too. The difference is whether we’re talking about 25 chars per codepage or 4000.
