I found this bug while trying to find out why someone else had problems with his/her chosen Sazanami-Mincho-Regular-xx.fnt doesn't get saved and he/she would have to choose it again after a reboot. My guess was that the path was too long so I tried to shorten the font name.
As soon as the whole path was only 40 characters long it worked as expected:
"Sazanami-Mincho-R-10.fnt" led to a correctly saved
"font: /.rockbox/fonts/Sazanami-Mincho-R-10.fnt" in the config file - any longer font name fails.

Ok - please ignore! I figured it out myself and a commit will follow.
Sorry for the hassle it was a bit unexpected that the fix was this easy...
