FS#7680 - e200 doom plugin: select/record button confusion

running rockbox built today (8/30) from svn on sansa e280:

I have set the “select” button to fire, and the “record” button to strafe. However, when I launch the game, it does not work as expected. Pressing the “select” button fires AND strafes, but pressing the “record” button does nothing.

there arn't enough buttons on the e200 to make it really usable.. if you want to play doom use your computer :p

Mine wont move forward/backward, Can’t remember if the button were confused for the fire..

i’ve found that the actual record button on the sansa e280 is, in the Doom game key settings, designated as the “mode” button for some reason, the “record button” setting is interchangeable with the “Select button” setting…..and the “key on” setting works by scrolling the click/scroll-wheel right…and there’s no setting which is activated by scrolling the wheel to the left

Yeah Key off isn’t working (scroll-wheel to the right), it would help greatly to code it.

i’m working on learning how to use patches, and trying to see how they’re made….have you had any success with any of the patches posted up here, Stephane?

The button names used in the Set Keys menu on the Sansa e200 are largely wrong or meaningless - I assume they have been lifted unmodified from some other target. Only the direction buttons are named correctly. The record button is named Mode, Scroll clockwise/down/right is named On, the centre Select button performs the action asigned to Select, but also the action asigned to Record. Attempting to map an action to Key Off is fruitless - the action becomes Unmapped when you next check the menu.

I have also noticed a couple of other Doom control problems:

1. The scrollwheel speed is much slower than the button repeat speed, making the scrollwheel nearly useless as a Left/Right input (obviously, until you can map Scroll Up to an action, you can’t do this anyway)

2. Having asignd Automap to Key Right, I cannot escape from Automap mode: once in Automap, the direction buttons scroll the map, regardless of the key mappings, and none of the other keys leave Automap mode either. Perhaps I’m missing some trick here, but if so, it needs documenting.

Tested on Sansa e250 with r14705.

there’s simply not enough buttons on the Sansa e200’s for all the button assignments on Doom unless someone could find a way to code a button repeat setting, such as used in the Jewels game, where you must hold the “select” button to save or do other menu options while playing the game…though i’m not sure what button could be assigned multiple tasks?…
