FS#8297 - New startup logo for pictureflow

Well, I thought that the pictureflow startup logo looks a bit…bland. Something a bit more flashy would be suitable as we have to stare at it for like 2 minutes whenever rebuilding the cache.

(I have yet to make the logo, but I will probably make it by tomorrow)

OP agrees it would be better to have no logo at all

Why don’t we use the rb logo?

I would suggest that we do not use a logo at all… Users have a progress bar when the cache is building, and if the cache is built already, PictureFlow loads up quickly enough. The logo makes it feel rather unprofessional and alienated.

OK, I came up with a new logo in photoshop, although I suck at photoshop. Feel free to make improvements to it (in fact, please do!). Both the psd and the bmp files are attached. The biggest problem is that we have to fit in the entire logo within 18 pixels (of height).

I still think a logo is highly unnecessary for such a plugin. If anything, the loading should be as seamless as possible.

I agree; no logo needed. Ultimately I’d think the intention would be to make pictureflow into an alternative browser (alongside file and database, but still as a plugin), so it needs to feel integrated and be as lightweight as possible.

A discussion on IRC led to the conclusion that it should be a plugin called by the browser and database, to display album covers and pictures, or more. It would be a heck of a replacement to the current jpeg viewer indeed.

I agree, on second thought, the logo is completely useless and just adds to the “fake” effect.
