FS#9230 - IPOD using FLAC is skipping some songs but not all

I’m using an Ipod Video 30Gb. Using current build the Ipod under Rockbox skips around half the Flac songs but will play the other half. I cannot find anything unusual about the songs it skips or those that it plays.

What information can I provide to help resolve this?

Silence = solved. Presumably a normal database support question.

What do you mean by skips? Do you hear skipping while it's playing the song? Can you see the files in the file browser and load them into playlists but they aren't played? Are you using the database and it isn't adding them to the list? Explaining what exactly you are doing, what revision of Rockbox you are using, and how the situation can be replicated would all be useful.

I'm using the Ipod Video 30Gb version.

Under "database", I see all the songs I downloaded into a folder on the IPOD called MUSIC. BTW: my folder structure is MUSIC/ARTIST/ALBUM/*.flac.
The database does list and show all the songs I downloaded to the IPOD but here is what happens:

I select Database, Artist, All Tracks, and then let's say I choose the first song (they are all in FLAC), for some reason, certain songs will not play and they will never play, the software skips to the next song and if it's one that will play it plays it every time. If I hit skip (next song), the Now Playing screen will show the song(s) briefly but will skip the same songs and eventually land on one it will play.

I have tried putting certain songs on, certain albums, certain artists… but the skipping always seems to occur on the same songs. These songs play just fine on the computer that I used to download them from (all of them do). But when I attempt to play them either directly by choosing them specifically, or by Artist, or even All Tracks, the ipod will skip through the songs until it hits the ones it can play. I cannot tell from looking at the songs size, date of creation, etc… any common theme that would point to why they won't play.

I'm using Rockbox r18166-080801.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide to help.

That behaviour sounds very much like the files are not actually present on your player and/or the database is corrupted.

First off, try navigating to one of your 'skipping' files directly using the File Browser ([Main Menu] > Files > MUSIC > etc.). If you can find it there, at least it is on the ipod.

Then try playing it from the File Browser (Click Right button when file highlighted). If that works, it would appear to be a database problem.

Go to Database Settings, export your runtime data, then try to initialise the database again.
