DetailsI'm totally blind, so use rockbox partially for its speech capabilities, as the only real alternative is the horribly overpriced iPod nano with no micro sd support. I'm going to try and downgrade to a release to see if it fixes the problem, but meanwhile, I'll describe it in case someone has any insight as to what could be going on.
All is ok until I start playing a music file. Let's say I select files from the home screen, select the music folder, and then select a track called "last Christmas". The track starts playing. I can press the bottom cursor button to get back to the main menu again, and it lowers the music volume so the voice can speak over it. The problem occurs if I stop the song with the upper pause button, then try to do anything with speech. It simply refuses to talk. Whether I'm going into the song menu by holding OK, or pressing the bottom button to get to the main menu again, it simply does not speak. If I play the song again, speech works fine. I asked my mother to read the screen while speech was unavailable, and it still showed the same main menu, so I know it's working internally. The only way around this, as far as I can tell, is to navigate to the fm radio, play it for a few seconds, then exit back to main menu again. Of course I could also restart the device. But every single time I play a song and then stop it, speech disappears. I installed the daily build at about 7 PM eastern last night, using the manual install method, and created the voice files using rockbox utility and a SAPI5 voice named ScanSoft Samantha. I'm using the Fuze V2, which I purchased four days ago, and running Microsoft Windows XP Pro (SP3) as an operating system. Unless I'm (not) doing something really stupid, this would appear to be a bug. |
