It would be great if there was a menu option to disable USB connect mode, so that it only defaultly goes into charge mode on USB. The reason I request this is so that we could use the car mode connected to a USB car charger. Currently when connecting a USB charger it will go into USB connect mode. I am aware of holding down rec to not go into USB connect but it would be handy to have the option so that car mode with USB charging is automated.

Just in addition it would be good also if with this option it would also bootup and automatically continue play when USB power is applied, would make it very automated in car for me.

I would also like to see this on the ipods, i would rather use my wall charger to recharge the battries than keeping my computer on all night for it. if the cable could be auto-detected it would be great.

The most time i listened normally to music with my ipod i was charging it with a normal power supply. so a autodedection if the ipod is plugged weather to a normal pc or only to a powersource would be really great !!

Wrote a quick hack to add this feature (against CVS 2006-08-09). My first change to rockbox, hope it's not too scary :D

This adds a menu option to control the feature right below idle power off / sleep timer settings.

Michael am I correct in assuming your patch will work to prevent the USB bootloader mode from going in at startup as well if USB cable is in?

No. The settings (including this setting) get loaded after the USB code is initialised.

is it possible to patch the bootloader to do this as well?

this would be a good fix to the car charger issue of the original iriver firmware loading when the car is started with a charger plugged in...

Any progress in this department? I still would like my iriver to start the Rockbox firmware when power is applied, not the iriver one!
