In 'Sound settings', why not put 'Equalizer' in top of the list instead of 'Volume' which can be adjusted from the main window.
Also, 'Pitch' function is not working very well. Could it be possible to replace it by a 'Play speed' function with timestretching. So you could adjust speed without affecting pitch and vice versa.

1. Why are you mixing two feature requests in one?
2. A matter of taste. Either compile your own build or convince enough devs on IRC/mail-list that your preference is The Right Thing[TM].
3. The pitch option changes both pitch and tempo.
 FS#5668  speaks of other possibilities.
