FS#6515 - New Japanese Font
Opened by Lars Goldschlager (Bliss) - Sunday, 07 January 2007, 21:42 GMT
Being unconfortable with using unifont on the rockbox to be able to have Japanese characters in my text/menues since unifont was too large for my taste, I set
out to find another font I could use, that looked good, and was smaller. So after looking around many places and fonts and testing them, finally I found
Sazanami (さざなみ) which I liked very much, and decided to share it with you. The license allows redistribution of originals or derivatives in source or binary
form as long as the license is included with the fonts (I include it on both attached files).
I provided point sizes 8,9,10,11,12,13 and 14 so you can choose your prefered size. I find that Pt 11 offers a good balance on kanji readability, and screen
space on my iPod Nano, you can choose your own size. Also I include two zip files, one contains .fnt fonts you can copy to .rockbox/fonts in your rockbox device
to use them at once. The other contains BDF "source" files that can be used on the rockbox build dir to generate the fnt files if the rockbox maintainers decide
to include it (I presume a small modification to a makefile is in course to add them to the compile process).
The fonts can be found too over at: http://sourceforge.jp/projects/efont/ And I choose to use Sazanami-Mincho since it's thiner than Sazanami-Gothic and thus more
readable at small point sizes.
It also looks good printing Latin characters. though I am not sure yet if it includes glyphs for accented latin characters.
