Rockbox Voice Files
Introduction
This is the place to download voice files for making Rockbox speak. More info on how to do this can be found here.
Note that you need Rockbox 2.3 or later for this to work at all. If you do, select a suitable voice file from the list below but keep in mind the version of Rockbox you are using, as changes have taken place over the years. If you use a voice file not matching your Rockbox version, nothing will go wrong, but it's possible that not all of the menu entries, settings, and so on, will be voiced. If you have a text-to-speech software for your language available on your PC it's not hard to create your own voice file. Go to the tutorial and learn how to do this!
Voice Files for Current Builds
Starting on 11/18/07, we use a speex codec in rockbox for the voices on swcodec targets. You must pick up a new voice file if you don't have an archos box. We have daily built files (for archos and others), on the daily builds page. Archos still use the same format, so no need to change voice.
Voice Files for Builds Between 11/18/07 and 8/06/07
Starting on 11/18/07, the voice files use a speex codec for non archos targets. You will need to pick up a new speex voice. Archos units can still use the same voice file. These are backlogs of voices usable with builds from 8/03/07 to 11/18/07. These aren't speex voices.
Pick one of these if you are running one of these builds within those dates, and also want all entries voiced.
Voice Files for Builds Before 2007-08-06
Pick one of these if you are running an older daily build of Rockbox.
Voice Files for Release 2.5
Pick one of these if you are running a release version of Rockbox, and want all entries voiced.
Outdated Voice Files
These voice files don't contain all necessary clips even for release 2.5. You can still use one of them if you need a language that is not covered with more recent files, but expect some entries not to be spoken.
2006-01-25: All voice files generated with AT&T Natural Voices have been removed, due to licensing problems with AT&T
2006-06-19: The Italian Luca Loquendo voice has been removed for copyright problems
