Current Status

An initial commit was made on 21 May, 2008. Since the chipset is largely similar to that of the Sansa e200 series, most everything works, including audio. Some more work on the touchpad is needed.

Another commit was made on 18 June 2009, which enables the touchpad and finally allows full control. The bootloader still does not support dual booting with the OF, and the install process is still rather complicated. Plugins are not yet enabled.

Please note that Rockbox is NOT ready for everyday use on the GoGear SA9200. It is still only meant for developers and testers.

Recovery Mode

1. Power off the player. Slide the side switch to the OFF position and hold it for ~15 seconds (even after the screen says "bye" and goes blank).
2. Press and hold the Vol + button
3. Slide the side switch to the Lock position (hold on)
4. Insert the USB cable (while still holding Vol +)
5. The player should power on and display "PHILIPS" on the screen, if it does not, then you did not properly power off the device in step 1. After that, your computer should find the "16-MB FORMAT" drive (Philips SA9XXX GoGear USB Device).

Service Mode

1. Power off the player. Slide the side switch to the OFF position and hold it for ~15 seconds (even after the screen says "bye" and goes blank).
2. Press and hold the Vol - button
3. Slide power switch to the On position and release
4. Immediately slide the switch back to the On position and hold it there (also still holding Vol -)
5. The player should power on and display "PHILIPS" on the screen, if it does not, then you did not properly power off the device in step 1. After that, it should enter Service Mode. There is a "SDRam Test" and a "Flash Loading Test" that seems to start Recovery Mode (prompting to insert USB).

How to get firmware on the device (aka. "We don't need no stinking bootloader (yet)" -- for trained professionals only)

1. Build the main firmware image (rockbox.mi4).
2. Enter into recovery mode per above instructions.
3. Rename 'rockbox.mi4' to 'FWImage.ebn'.
4. Copy FWImage.ebn to the "16-MB FORMAT" drive and disconnect the device to write it to flash.
5. Boot Rockbox and plug the USB cable to get into Rockbox UMS mode.
6. Make a full rockbox.zip and a bootloader (FWImage.ebn).
7. Extract rockbox.zip to root of device.
8. Reset device and reenter recovery mode.
9. Copy Rockbox bootloader build (FWImage.ebn) to "16-MB FORMAT" drive.
10. Disconnect to write bootloader to flash.
11. Turn device on and it should boot into Rockbox.

If this fails, simply copy an original FWImage.ebn in recovery mode to restore the player to the original state.
