Quick Guide to Decipher IRC Talk

Phrases

Commonly used abbrevations or phrases seen on IRC. While many of these may be against the main channel's guidelines, this can help to decipher the speech of some of those who haven't read them yet.

Phrase/Abbreviation Meaning
AFAIK As far as I know
AFAICS As far as I can see
ASAP As soon as possible
ATM At the moment
BBL Be back later
BRB Be right back
BTW By the way
CU, CYA See you (later)
ETA Estimated time of arrival
FAQ Frequently asked question(s)
FWIW For what it's worth
gnite, nite, night, n8 Good night
GTG Got to go
IIRC If I (remember/recall) correctly
IIUC If I understand correctly
IM(H)O In my (humble) opinion
LOL Laughing out loud
moin, morn Morning, Good morning
