Current Status
Rockbox does NOT run on the v2 players.
SanDisk Sansa E200 v2 players have different hardware than the original ones, and Rockbox has NOT been adapted to run on this new hardware. It will take a considerable effort to make it do so.
How to identify an e200 v2
The firmware is v03.xx.xx and the splash screen shows 'sansa' in blue. Also, the back cover should say 'e200v2' in the bottom right but the cover is sometimes wrong. The packaging mentions supporting Audible.
As previously seen with SanDisk products, it seems that they're sometimes mislabeled, so there's unfortunately a slight risk that you'll get a v2 unit, even if the packaging doesn't mention Audible support. Make sure the store you buy at has a reasonable return policy.

USB Mode
As of Firmware version 03.01.14A, you can go to Settings/USB Mode and select between three options: "Auto Detect", "MTP" (Media Transport Protocol), and "MSC" (USB Media Storage Class Device aka USB Drive).
On Kubuntu 7.10, and Windows 98SE, as well as any other OS that does not support MTP, both before the firmware update and afterwards using "Auto Detect", the Sansa appears automatically as a USB Drive. On 98SE some generic MSC drivers are needed. YMMV.
If you don't have that firmware, it appears as though the e200v2's are stuck in MTP mode. However, there is a way to change into MSC mode:
1. Power on your Sansa e200v2
2. Switch ON the hold button
3. Press the |<< button and plug in your USB cable
4. Keep it pressed until the Sansa is completely recognized by your OS
This should work on Windows XP and Windows Vista.
