Current Status

An initial commit was made on 21 May, 2008. Since the chipset is largely similar to that of the Sansa e200 series, most everything works, including audio. Some more work on the touchpad is needed.

Another commit was made on 18 June 2009, which enables the touchpad and finally allows full control. The bootloader supports dual booting with the OF and MSC. As of 10 December 2009, all plugins have keymaps for the SA9200, and as of 9 January 2011, plugins have been enabled.

Port maestro is Mark Arigo.

Recovery Mode

1. Power off the player. Slide the side switch to the OFF position and hold it for ~15 seconds (even after the screen says "bye" and goes blank).
2. Press and hold the Vol + button
3. Slide the side switch to the Lock position (hold on)
4. Insert the USB cable (while still holding Vol +)
5. The player should power on and display "PHILIPS" on the screen, if it does not, then you did not properly power off the device in step 1. After that, your computer should find the "16-MB FORMAT" drive (Philips SA9XXX GoGear USB Device).

Service Mode

1. Power off the player. Slide the side switch to the OFF position and hold it for ~15 seconds (even after the screen says "bye" and goes blank).
2. Press and hold the Vol - button
3. Slide power switch to the On position and release
4. Immediately slide the switch back to the On position and hold it there (also still holding Vol -)
5. The player should power on and display "PHILIPS" on the screen, if it does not, then you did not properly power off the device in step 1. After that, it should enter Service Mode. There is a "SDRam Test" and a "Flash Loading Test" that seems to start Recovery Mode (prompting to insert USB).

How to get firmware on the device

1. Download a Rockbox build and the bootloader.
2. Enter into recovery mode per above instructions.
3. Copy the Rockbox bootloader build (FWImage.ebn) to the "16-MB FORMAT" drive.
4. Disconnect so that the firmware is written to the hidden partition and the player reboots. Be sure USB cable is inserted during reboot.
5. Player should now be in bootloader USB mode. Extract rockbox.zip to root of device.
6. Remove USB cable and it should boot into Rockbox.

If the bootloader installed successfully but you missed getting into USB mode, simply power back on with the cable inserted and try again. If bootloader installation fails or to revert to the original state, simply copy an original FWImage.ebn in recovery mode to restore the player.

To enable dual-boot, rename an original 'FWImage.ebn' to 'OF.ebn' and copy it to the /SYSTEM directory. Press 'Vol +' at powerup to boot into it. To go back to Rockbox, hold 'Off' for approximately 15 seconds from the OF and power-up again.
