iPod classic (aka iPod 6G) port

NOTE Some sources (e.g. Wikipedia) incorrectly refer to all full-size iPods released since 2001 as part of the "classic" product line. Please refer to the Identifying iPod models page on Apple's website for the correct definition - the first generation iPod Classic was released in September 2007.

Summary

Rockbox works well and is considered "stable." A dual-boot bootloader exists and can be installed with RockboxUtility 1.4.1 and later. The port is in an advanced state and has excellent battery life.

Port Status

Nearly all of Rockbox's features work and battery life is extremely good.

Installation

RockboxUtility supports automatic installation of the bootloader on Windows and 64-bit Linux as of v1.4.1 (2019-11-15). macOS and 32-bit Linux users should follow the manual instructions at:

https://files.freemyipod.org/~user890104/bootloader-ipodclassic.html

Alternatively, you can use emCORE from freemyipod.org in place of the official bootloader. This install method is more complex and is not recommended.

Hardware

The hardware is very similar to the Nano 2G.
