00:07:25devZer0wethion: still fsck'in ?
00:07:38wethion_devZer0: I'm back..
00:08:42wethion_Oh, I was called away for a bit.. ext3 tho'.
00:09:08wethion_what works well for you?
00:10:20shayesHadaka - looks like that works just fine for now. How often do you recommend updating with one of the daily builds?
00:11:16Hadakawell, you can keep in touch by looking at the mailinglist/commitmails - but in general every time you either find a bug or want to see if there's something new
00:11:32HadakaI'm not keeping too well in touch with rockbox now, so I'm updating like once a month
00:11:54devZer0weth: the latest daily build
00:12:03wethion_Oh. :)
00:12:13shayesOK..I also heard that if you hold down the ON button during bootup you can bypass the Rockbox software...is this true?
00:14:37devZer0really?
00:16:01devZer0weth: you are aware of http://www.linux-usb.org/ ?
00:17:03devZer0there is also a mailinglist
00:18:19wethion_devZer0: On my way there now.. thanks.

00:21:25HadakaI never had any problems with the archos and usb on linux
00:22:04devZer0which distrib do you use?
00:22:53devZer0i use suse - and it works good, too. i have mandrake inside vmware here on my notebook - and it fails. but i`m not shure it
00:23:01devZer0is because of vmware or mandrake

00:26:58devZer0stock kernel or custom one ?
00:27:24shayesHadaka - another question...how can you rename or delete files from the directory?
00:27:40HadakadevZer0: self-compiled with kernel-package - but stock kernel source
00:27:56Hadakashayes: rockbox can't do that yet - you can boot the old archos firmware if you need to do that
00:28:51shayesHadaka - I am trying to boot the old firmware but can't seem to so it? Can you help...last thing...I almost promise.
00:28:52devZer0regarding: on the "low level" the code is inside ! successfully deleted some files with some test routines.
00:29:05devZer0just the ui stuff is missing for that, i think
00:29:37devZer0pardon - wanted to say: regarding deleting:
00:30:08Hadakashayes: you need to download a firmware update from the archos site - and name it something else than ajbrec.ajz and place it on the hard-drive - then with rockbox, if you have show files as 'supported' or 'all', you can see the firmware listed - if you try to 'play' it, it will boot it
00:31:59shayesHadaka - can you use this process in reverse to go back to a Rockbox boot?
00:32:45Hadakashayes: if you boot another rockbox firmware, then obviously yes - but ofcourse the stock archos firmware doesn't boot anything except itself :) so you have to turn the unit off and back on if you wish to get back to rockbox
00:33:16Hadakashayes: all your settings are saved through this though, so it should be relatively painless
00:34:28shayesHadaka - OK...you can't go in reverse because Archos does not give you the option to view all files...?
00:35:00Hadakashayes: err, no, archos doesn't know how to load firmwares at all
00:35:18Hadakashayes: it's a feature built into rockbox, archos doesn't have the ability
00:36:05shayesHadaka - OK...thanks a lot for the help...you just made this player a lot more fun!!!!
00:36:27Hadakashayes: no problem
00:37:25devZer0:) never bought a device before and was so happy with that. archos jb with rockbox is really great
00:40:22wethion_Ok, I have the modules loaded, usb-storage, usbcore, and scsi_mod. still nothing in syslog, lsusb, /proc/devices (save major 180 usb, which has always been there) and nothing from scsiinfo about a new drive. Feh.
00:41:18Hadakawethion_: have you got any other usb devices you could try?
00:41:49wethion_Hadaka: I wish.. but no.. umm actually, I just remembered I have my daughter
00:42:00wethion_'s usb microscope
00:42:15devZer0usb controller works with windows on the same machine ? did you try that ? you also could try Knoppix Linux Live CD. really great
00:42:34Hadakawethion_: it would be good to know if the usb ports in general register anything
00:42:42wethion_how would I tell?
00:42:51devZer0it has very good automatic hardwaredetection. just to be shure that it`s no problem with the hardware!
00:43:09wethion_lemme see fi Ican find a utility. BRB.
00:43:23Hadakawethion_: well, especially with usb debugging turned on - _something_ should happen when any new usb device is stuck in

01:31:35ricIIwethion: ooops ;)
01:34:30wethionYes, to say the least. now I'm looking at the firmware. for a studio, how much better is rockbox that archos firmware?
01:36:30Hadakawethion: well, go over the feature list in rockbox - and decide if there's things you want
01:36:50ricIIwethion it's free! (as in speach)
01:37:32wethionI was doing that.. looks pretty cool.
01:38:06wethionricII: That's the biggest plus imho. It's simply a matter of moving the file to the drive on the archos?
01:38:56Hadakawethion: yes
01:39:01ricIIwethion yep, properly named the original frimware will load it..
01:39:48wethiongood deal. Hey, thanks to all of you, I really appreciate your patience and assistance.
01:43:01Hadakano problem

01:53:56devZer0if i start typing strange things one day, it`s the soldering fumes i breathed when soldering accupacs for some weeks when working at a rc-model-shop :D
01:53:58ricIImine is looks almost like that (I kept the middel part in for the keys
01:54:02PsycoXullooks like they just removed the cover and taped it together
01:54:03PsycoXul:p
01:54:21ricIItape is to keep the batteries form popping out (there is no case)
01:54:33devZer0hardeep: this is just a logo mod - just with a jukebox stripped down to the bone :D
01:54:52vmarsOndio? Opinions?
01:54:57devZer0it`s from me - did that some days ago
01:55:12hardeepah, heh
01:55:21hardeepvmars: doesn't run rockbox so pass
01:55:33PsycoXulheh
01:56:32vmarshardeep: ah, any idea how the firmware's differ?
01:56:39devZer0weth: yes - that is tape - just some tesa-tape :D
01:57:15ricIIbasicly I'm making a transparent (well yellowwish polyester) case bottom part is already done now the hard part.
01:57:34PsycoXuli like the archos' case personally, except i wish it had a blank aluminum front instead of a wordy plastic one
01:57:36hardeepvmars: i've never seen an ondio and have no idea how well it's firmware works. But if the AJBR is any indication, it's full of bugs
01:57:41devZer0ric: how will that fit ?
01:58:24ricIIlike a soap box?
01:58:31devZer0psy: i don`t like the case at all. i like "clean" designs. wonder why i didn`t buy an iPod :D THAT is really nice design!

01:59:03PsycoXulwell one of the things that went into my decision on the archos was it's ruggedness
02:00
02:00:29PsycoXuli don't like plastic stuff that'll scatter all over the floor if you drop it heh
02:00:40devZer0ric: ...no usb2.0.... and much more expensive. thats why i decided to buy archos jb :D
02:00:41vmarshardeep: heh, no doubt ... I can't imagine the firmware would be too different, as they appear ro have the same funcitonality
02:01:23devZer0vmwars: rockbox is more stable !
02:01:48devZer0i have less crashes when playing and recording with that. the original firmware is crap - really !
02:01:50ricIIactuly I wanted a metalcase, but I don't have the tools to make it..
02:02:04devZer0ric: want a metal case, too
02:03:11vmarshas anyone tried to put rockbox on an Ondio?
02:03:25devZer0this is nice metalcase: http://rockbox.my-vserver.de/pics/usb20_hdd.jpg - unfortunately too small for archos and not available "separate"
02:03:30hardeepvmars: it wouldn't work... completely different hardware
02:05:37vmarshardeep: hmmm... is there somewhere where they have the hardware specs for an Ondio? (I just got mine yesterday, and don't wanna pull it apart *just* yet :-) )
02:06:45hardeepvmars: i'm not sure. however, there's obvious differences like flash vs. hard drive
02:07:07ClosetPacifistdon't suppose anyone here's tried to get a recorder running on Mac OS X? Cypress's drivers make my tower spit errors and stop at startup...
02:07:33vmarshardeep: yeah, but isn't the harddrive still accesses as a mass storage device, menus look the same
02:09:12wethionClosetPacifist: there is a #osx available that may be of some help if no one here can.
02:09:59wethionClosetPacifist: I (just) got it running on Debian, so OS X should be at least possible.
02:10:34wethionClosetPacifist: can you recompile kernels in OS X?
02:11:16devZer0can one recompile kernels in nt and win2k/xp ? ;)
02:12:17wethiondevZer0: Bleh. smartass. :) OS X is just unix with a pretty shell over it, so I thought it may be possible.
02:13:05wethionHrm, now there's an idea.. I wonder if anyone has ever tried to build an open source win2k kernel?
02:13:33ClosetPacifistDOH! blasted xchat, thought the yellow text was messages or something
02:17:57hardeepvmars: i don't believe flash based players use fat32 for their filesystem though
02:18:05devZer0weth: i saw such project, but can`t remember the name anymore
02:18:40hardeepClosetPacifist: you may want to check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/archosjukebox6000/
02:18:46devZer0but - do we need that. if wine would run perfect we wouldn`t need :D
02:18:59vmarshardeep: one of archos's firmware updates allows fat32, so its possible
02:19:20hardeepvmars: hmmm, interesting.
02:19:25vmarsany idea how badly I could break this thing if I started plopping on various firmwares?
02:19:25wethionI haven't looked at wine in a while.. how is it goint?
02:19:36hardeepvmars: are the firmware upgrades done in a similar way?
02:19:43ClosetPacifisthardeep: looked through that earlier, but couldn't find anything like my problem
02:19:46hardeepvmars: as the AJBR that is... drop a file in the root folder
02:19:55vmarshardeep: yep, same filename and everything
02:20:10vmarshardeep: mine looks to be about twice the size of the rockbox one
02:20:18hardeepvmars: you really won't do any damage dropping the firmware in... give it a try. :)
02:20:52devZer0weth: making little steps...going forward..... there is somewhat commercially "enhanced" wine which makes office2k, ie, visio run on linux
02:21:00vmarshardeep: heh, I'm not sure if I trust you. :-)
02:21:12devZer0its called crossover office. but thats somewhat offtopic. this is #rockbox :D
02:21:21hardeepvmars: the worse that can happen is that it doesn't load... then you just delete it
02:21:30vmarshardeep: will it still register as a USB mass storage device if I bork the firmware?
02:21:54vmarshardeep: or I guess it wil just not load and keep the old firmware in that case ....
02:21:57hardeepvmars: the rom firmware will load
02:22:15hardeepvmars: so rockbox won't have any affect on usb

02:25:07***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
02:25:19hardeepvmars: zagor built a version that was recognized by the FM recorder
02:25:31hardeepso it's certainly possible
02:25:43hardeepbut more information is needed about the hardware used
02:26:02hardeep(someone needs to open the case and take some pictures)
02:26:43vmarshmm ... it would be fun if I could get this to work on the Ondio
02:27:16vmarsparticularly if I could monkey with the FM bits of it, as it seems a little bogus

04:10:37ClosetPacifistI'll try, sure.
04:11:31EGM92ok, I hooked it up to the DC adaptor now, it says "battery charging..." how do I know when it's done charging?
04:12:17ClosetPacifistit'll change that to say "battery charged."
04:13:07EGM92oh ok, but untill then I won't be able to turn it on right?
04:14:17ClosetPacifistwell, if you turn it on normally and then plug in the adaptor you'll be able to use it anyway, or if you install the rockbox firmware you can press on while it's charging todo so

04:16:00EGM92ok, sweet, problem is... I don't know how install firmware on this thing yet, I created the directory .rockbox, and put in the ARCHOS.MOD file but what am I supposed to do after that?
04:16:46ClosetPacifistcool- only thing you've got wrong is that the archos.mod file has to go into the root directory of the jukebox, not in the .rockbox folder
04:17:03ClosetPacifistthen when you turn it on it should use rockbox
04:17:17EGM92oh I see hold on let me do that then
04:20:08EGM92ok I put the archos.mod in the root directory
04:20:22EGM92After I do that how can I use it while it's cahrging?
04:20:50ClosetPacifistwhen it displays "battery charging..." you just hold down the on key for a bit
04:21:05EGM92which key?
04:21:59ClosetPacifistack- think the on key, not sure about the player
04:22:43PsycoXulindeed, the On key
04:23:05EGM92ok I heldthe "on" key and now it activated the HDD and it took me to a screen, "Jukebox 6gb ver: 5.02" and that's it
04:23:21PsycoXuluh it should keep going.. no matter what heh

04:26:17EGM92I hear the hardrive its gonig like tick tick tick tick tick
04:26:25PsycoXulok
04:26:35PsycoXulthen it doesn't have enough power to spin up

04:27:22PsycoXulthat just charges
04:27:43PsycoXulthe HD spinning up still takes more power than the charging circuit provides, so the batteries need to have enough power to do it

04:27:59PsycoXulyeah
04:28:06EGM92ok thanks guys

23:47:16MrSnazzif I were in c:\foo\bar, and wanted a directory of c:\winnt\system32, I could type "dir ..\..\winnt\system32" and get a directory, yes.
23:48:11kargatronrelative path output
23:48:42kargatronbeing in foo\bar, and not getting that in outputted path
23:49:40MrSnazzsorry, don't understand what you mean. :)
23:51:07kargatroninstead getting of c:\foo\bar\file1, c:\foo\bar\file2, just getting file1, file2 list output
23:51:31kargatronwas in reference to recent list-noise about the problem of wrong paths
23:52:09MrSnazzdir /B
23:52:49MrSnazzto exclude directories, dir /A-D /B
23:52:58MrSnazzyeilds only a list of files
23:53:40MrSnazzI tested this with the winnt command prompt, so mileage may varry.
23:54:54kargatronah, but dir /S /B always includes full path
23:54:59kargatronthat's what was throwing me
23:55:07MrSnazzah
