#rockbox log for 2006-05-20

00:00:24Black_Like_a_catI just got this mp4 player off of ebay... It's obviously from china and the functionality is completely backwards. would it be dificult to configure roxbox for it
00:00:57sharpeis it supported by rockbox?
00:00:59Black_Like_a_catwould I just need to find out the processor, DSP, etc. and then compile a build for it
00:01:08Black_Like_a_catI don't think so
00:01:15buraiantohi guys. does anyone know if there is any documentation on the tagcache config file format?

00:49:33Genre9mp3Hey, after some tests I made I found out this: When you have a line with text in a wps, if you try to load a bmp at the same height with the line, the bmp won't show up. But, if you make the line scroll with the "%s" tag, then this doesn't happen (the bmp shows up as it should) but if the bmp is at the same area where the text is, it hides it. I think this is not normal behavior, is it?

20:32:53Aghasteri have a question, i currently have the apple firmware installed on my ipod, with some songs i bought from itunes on it. The problem is, i forgot to backup my songs i bought when i formatted my comp, so the only backup left is on my ipod
20:33:09Aghasterunfortunately, songs bought from the itunes store are under DRM
20:33:22Aghasterdoes anybody know how can i free them out my ipod?
20:33:31Aghasterlol mikachu
20:33:32Mikachui know there are programs that will copy back normal songs from an ipod
20:33:37sharpeyeah...
20:33:41Mikachudunno about drm
20:33:47Aghasteri tried gtkpod yesterday, it didnt work with drm songs :/
20:33:59midkayyou could copy back your Music directory in iPod_Control.. and then use a program to tag all the files based on their ID3 tags. e.g The Godfather.
20:34:20Mikachuyou can download the songs without feeling bad about it
20:34:25midkayunfortunately you'd have to sort them yourself, unless you can find a program to do that too.
20:34:37Aghastermikachu, but i would not loose what i paid for
20:34:46Aghastersome of them couldn't be found anywhere else
20:34:54linuxstbComplain to Apple about it...
20:35:04Aghasteri have an idea of what i could do
20:35:22Aghastergtkpod identified the correct files, but wasnt able to encode them to wav to my comp
20:35:24Mikachuitunes doesn't let you import drm songs back to the computer?
20:35:31Aghasterso i'll simply copy the files to my comp and try to convert them
20:35:47Aghasteritunes doesn't let you import _anything_ from your ipod
20:35:54Aghasterit only allows you to copy songs to your ipod
20:36:06Mikachuthat's pretty silly
20:36:12Aghasterthat's a good reason why i wanna definitly switch to rockbox
20:36:23linuxstbIt's "FairPlay"...

20:38:21preglowlinuxstb: well, that's a pretty common requirement
20:38:39pregloweven from music shops with no drm use
20:38:40Mikachui don't think the store will give you a new cd if you throw the old one away either
20:38:56Aghastermikachu: of course, because it costs them material
20:39:06preglowcosts these people bandwidth too
20:39:10preglowi don't think that's very unreasonable
20:39:19linuxstbIf you buy software online, you can generally download it again.
20:39:20Aghastergiving you another song which is only data doesn't cost anything else than bandwidth, which is almost nothing in my opinion
20:39:21sharpeokay, that's weird. now it seems text is shifted downward one line...
20:39:50midkaysharpe, margins?
20:39:58sharpei suppose...
20:40:16Aghasterpeople who buy songs have accounts and the songs downloaded are logged anyway, so fair would be that redownloading a song would cost only bandwith
20:41:01sharpei think i know what it may be due to... gui_textarea_clear() sets the y margin to the status bar... but i'm not sure if that's the problem.

20:44:29sharpedoes anyone think after a menu is not drawn anymore, the y margin should remain what it was while it was set when drawing the margin?
20:45:10midkaythe menu might set its own margins.. actually, in the editor. that's exactly what happened.
20:45:18midkaywhich is why i added setmargins to the plugin API.
20:45:32sharpemmhmm
20:45:37midkayif the status bar is on, the menu will try to draw it (first setting the margins down) and when you exit the menu they aren't restored.
20:45:47sharpethat's what it looks like.
20:46:12midkayjust add a setmargins(0,0) anywhere you might exit the menu..
20:46:20sharpetis what i'm going to tryt
20:48:15sharpewell... that works for the margins left over from the menu...
20:48:27midkayleft over?
20:48:33midkaywhat does it not work for?
20:48:39sharpe?
20:48:45midkay<sharpe> well... that works for the margins left over from the menu...
20:48:52midkayyou say that as if it fixes one thing but not another.

20:49:15midkayso, basically, it works.

20:50:25midkayhm..
20:53:34sharpei'm also pretty sure of where it doesn't restore the y margin, but sets it to the statusbar height, like it was...

23:28:28Novusit installed the rockbox firmware anybod kno?
23:28:38sharpei need something to do...
23:28:48sharpei'm not going to work on the c64 emulator for a while...
23:28:49linuxstbNovus: Have you downloaded the rockbox.zip file from the website and extracted the contents to your ipod?
23:28:59Novusyes
23:29:29Novusthe physical hardrive of the ipod?
23:29:40linuxstbYes.
23:29:55Novusyeah i did that..
23:30:00peturlinuxstb: as we only have two backdrops, the pointers towards them should be stored in the lcd part. That way switching between wps and menu backdrop should be much simpler (and bugfree)
23:30:01earHertzwhat's teh easiest way to revert using cvs (like subversion rever)?

23:30:54*midkay nods and doesn't know
23:30:57peturlinuxstb: theis old_backdrop) juggling is just plain wrong
23:31:04linuxstbearHertz: "cvs diff -u | patch -R -p0" will do that.
23:31:10Novusshould i just try it again?
23:31:31linuxstbpetur: I'm not going to try and defend it... By "lcd part", do you mean in the LCD drivers?
23:31:37peturhuh, seems I've gotten preglows typing skills
23:31:51earHertzlinuxstb: thanks. That's a baroque way of going about it.
23:31:52linuxstbNovus: What do you see on your ipod's screen when you reboot?
23:31:56Novusbecause ihad to uplug my ipod download the rockbox.zip file
23:31:58peturlinuxstb: that or some other central place
23:32:09Novusit goes to retail setting
23:32:09linuxstbearHertz: Or just delete the files you have changed, and do "cvs update"
23:32:23earHertzlinuxstb: yeah, taht;s what I've been doing
23:32:46linuxstbNovus: Do you see anything different on the screen - before the Apple firmware starts?
23:33:29Novusnope ;/
23:33:32linuxstbIf you've installed the bootloader correctly, you should see it display some black writing on a pale blue background. It will then try to start Rockbox, but if that fails, it will start the Apple firmware.
23:33:42linuxstbSo it seems you failed to install the bootloader...
23:34:29Novusdammit i had it right until i had to uplug it to download the rockbox.zip file
23:35:11Novuswill it mess it up to redo it?
23:35:13linuxstbpetur: What about making the central place backdrop.c. My thoughts in the past have been to expand that to include some functions to set/clear the backdrops. Would that help?
23:35:34peturlinuxstb: this is what happens: tree.c stores old_backdrop before starting the wps. while insde the wps, you can open de menu and load a theme. However, if you close the whole thing you get the old backdrop, not the theme
23:36:04linuxstbNovus: Did you complete all the steps on the wiki page? i.e. 1a) to 1g) ?
23:36:04peturlinuxstb, will do that, yes... I hope to have enough time this weekend ;)
23:36:14Novusyes
23:36:28linuxstbDid any of them give you any error messages?
23:36:36Novusno
23:36:56Novusit just said loading firmware and went to retail screen
23:37:11linuxstbYou mean "Loading Original Firmware" ?
23:37:19Novusyeah
23:37:27sharpeanyone have a suggestion as to what i can do to occupy my time?

23:42:45Novusso u extract rockbox.zip to ipod hardrive that says like calender, contacts, etc?
23:42:53linuxstbThat's where all the "HAVE_LCD_BITMAP" code seems to live. I think of the "recorder" directory in terms of the bitmapped LCD - as opposed to "player" for the char-cells LCD.
23:43:16linuxstbNovus: Yes.
23:43:19peturah... ok

23:53:54sharpelinuxstb: i know, i mean for rockbox... like, port side or something...
23:54:03linuxstbMikachu: Authenticity...
23:54:33linuxstbsharpe: If you try SIDE, you'll have the enjoyment of converting it from C++ to C.
23:54:37Mikachutoo young for space invaders :)
23:54:51sharpei know, it'd be more like, basing it off of side...
23:56:39sharpeas it seems like it be easier to implement an arcade emulator, rather than a general computer emulator...

23:58:46sharpeeven though it doesn't really mean anything, the SIDE source is ~120kb, whereas the c64 emulator source is like, 90kb, and it's nowhere near complete.
