00:06:17XavierGramiconn's explain.txt is hilarious indeed :D
00:08:54pixelmanot sure I like the accumulation of "directory" with this patch. While that is also a problem of the phrasing in general, I think a "folder" here and there added some diversion at least...
00:11:20pixelmasome sentences just read weird "Do not try to create a separate directory or directory on your player for the fonts! The .zip already contains the correct internal directory structure."

02:24:51countrymonkeyI'm sory. I was standing in front of a woman speaking a language. I turned around and asked her what nationality she was and she said she was norish.
02:25:01preglowunless that kick-ass sentence had some extra meaning i couldn't understand :P

02:27:59countrymonkeyI suppose. Thanks for correcting me. I plan to do both norsk translations.
02:29:30preglowcountrymonkey: might have been she just said "norsk" in a funny way, that might sound like "norish"
02:29:56pixelmapreglow: I tried to figure the meaning out myself, and I think it has to do with bookmarks only working if your playlist consists files in one folder. I think it needs an additional step (saving a playlist first or something?) if you want to have a mixed directory bookmark...
02:30:22countrymonkeyIs there a way "norsk" could sound like "norish"?
02:30:29preglowsure
02:30:52pixelmathat's what I remember but I seldom use bookmarking myself

02:31:25countrymonkeyAnd, by the way, how do you say fm radio in norsk? It is untranslated.
02:31:33pixelmabah, my explanation didn't sound much better :|

03:53:11psycho_maniacNo nothing like that for me, well I dont use msd cards
03:53:35countrymonkeyWe have different targets.
03:55:26mokkurkalvealienbiker99: mp3 is not a gapless format. However, newer lame encoders write info to the lame header that can be utilised by a properly written decoder to make gapless output. Formats like vorbis and musepack are naturally gapless. However, it still takes a properly written decoder, and most DAPs don't give gapless output of any format with original firmware
03:56:37alienbiker99oh i see. i knew that a lot of OF dont have gapless, i was gonna say that my mp3s play gaplessly. now i know why
03:56:40countrymonkeyDoes rb have that "properly written encoder?"
03:57:05countrymonkeyI mean decoder
04:00
04:00:19mokkurkalvealienbiker99: well, if your lucky you might get properly encoded mp3s. However, most of the stuff I've seen floating around the net seems to be encoded by cluless people. For full control, rip and encode yourself from original CD. Eg. lame -V 2 −−vbr-new if your into mp3...

10:38:26GodEater_With Nico_P's current work on the Gigabeat S we can now boot either the OF, or a rockbox.gigabeat image located in the 2nd partition depending on whether the hold switch is either on or off. Some speculation by ptw419 about why we can't make interrupts work on the S is that the OF interferes with the setup of the controller in some way. Nico also told me that we can, instead of using an nk.bin which has had our bootloader/bootloader.bin inserte
10:38:26GodEater_d into it, use the nk.bin which is generated when you compile the bootloader. This is a standalone nk.bin, and does not contain the OF at all. This might make getting the interrupts working properly possible - but will also make life tedious while we try this out, since after sending this file to the S, the OF is no longer available at all - and therefore any sort of USB connection becomes impossible. That means that after trying something out,
10:38:27GodEater_ you have to use the reformat procedure on the device, which aliask said ended up bricking his original S after one too many uses. Would it be possible (perhaps) to strip out the OF from the original nk.bin, and save this as another file on the 2nd partition which our bootloader could then load? This would then make testing new code a lot less painful, and a lot less likely to brick the S (which would be very bad for most of us working on, give
10:38:32GodEater_n how hard they are to come by.) Discuss.
10:40:10LloreanIs it necessary to strip down the of.bin you're keeping as a file on the second partition?

10:40:42GodEater_I've no idea
10:40:58GodEater_possibly not
10:41:33GodEater_the magic that makes dual booting possible is currently done in mknkboot at the moment
10:41:39GodEater_and I'm afraid I don't really understand it
10:42:19LloreanIt seems to me that if you could keep a spare full nk.bin on hand, that'd be nice. Both for dual boot, and for a "restore the original firmware" function like the Gigabeat F has, in case you realize everything else has gone wrong, and want to make one last attempt before reformatting.
10:42:49GodEater_very true
10:44:04GodEater_it just seemed that this was a natural extension of Nico's original idea of loading the rockbox.gigabeat file from disk, rather than from the hacked nk.bin file
10:44:27GodEater_since (if I understand correctly) doing it this way would mean no part of the OF is loaded before we run our code
10:44:39LloreanYeah, that much makes sense
10:44:47GodEater_because at the moment, the rockbox bootloader runs after a lot of WM code has already run
10:45:32GodEater_and while it's a nice idea - I lack the clue(c) necessary to implement it

12:48:39DefineBytewhich I intend to compose at some point
12:48:41GodEater_DefineByte: you get a vote when you do as much support as Llorean ;)
12:48:47linuxstbGodEater: About the Gigabeat S?
12:48:57GodEater_linuxstb: yes
12:49:08GodEater_thanks for the dual boot stuff btw
12:49:11LloreanDefineByte: "Folder" is almost the modern replacement for "Directory" anyway
12:49:15linuxstbDefineByte: Why not simply use a word _everyone_ will understand?
12:49:22DefineByteI'm happy to go with whatever the consensus is. :)

12:51:03DefineByteso "website" and "bootloader" aren't that important but we really should go with "folder"? Is that what we think?
12:51:24DefineByteI'm happy to go with that

12:52:44linuxstbGodEater_: I don't think using a "bootloader-only" nk.bin will help - IIUC, our bootloader code is executed _before_ the OF contained in nk.bin, so the OF is never run if we load a rockbox.gigabeat. The problem will be whatever the original firmware bootloader, which (again IIUC) is what loads nk.bin in the first place.
12:53:13 Join desowin [0] (n=desowin@atheme/developer/desowin)
12:53:41GodEater_linuxstb: so using the nk.bin which is generated by the bootloader compile (which I've not tried yet) will still show the windows mobile loading screen you think ?
12:54:14linuxstbI guess so - it should look the same as the current dual-boot nk.bin.
12:54:28GodEater_oh well - it was just a thought
12:54:31linuxstbDefineByte: I've always seen them written "website" and "bootloader" (i.e. without spaces).
12:55:07DefineByteI see them more often like that too
12:55:33Nico_PGodEater_: yes, the windows mobile logo still show, but for a much shorter time
12:55:40*linuxstb asks google, and gets 277,000 hits for "bootloader" and 1,350,000 hits for "boot loader"...
12:55:59Nico_Plinuxstb: try "boot loader"
12:56:08linuxstbI did...
12:56:13LloreanI got 2 mill for bootloader, 1.26 mill for "boot loader"
12:56:18Nico_Pwith the quotation marks, that is

12:57:07Nico_PGodEater_: I think the interrupt setup is probably done in the OF's bootloader, eboot.bin
12:57:27linuxstbHmm, "bootloader" with quotes gives about 2 million....
12:57:38*linuxstb didn't expect quotes to affect a search of a single word...
12:58:12DefineBytecan't imagine what quoting a single word does
12:58:49LloreanI didn't quote bootloader, and I got 2 million.
12:59:12*Llorean wonders how reliable the "about X results" bit is across multiple searches for the same term
12:59:13DefineByteit seems when you don't quote it it brings up some results for "boot loader" too.
12:59:38linuxstbLlorean: That's odd - if I don't quote bootloader, I get 277,000 and with quotes, get 2 million... Maybe some kind of odd caching
12:59:41phr_yeah it'll get both
13:00
13:00:05DefineByteI get exactly 10,000 more results without quotes
13:00:16DefineByteerm, without
13:00:26DefineByteerm, I already said that
13:00:32DefineBytemy brain is slowly dying
13:01:39DefineByteI guess it's like when you search for "colour" and it brings up results for "color" too.

13:02:40DefineBytethanks. I never like to presume. :)
13:02:45preglowlinuxstb: so we should rename directory cache to folder cache, then?
13:02:54DefineByteeheh
13:02:55preglowwe probably should rename it to something altogether different, though
13:02:57DefineBytemaybe
13:02:58*amiconn doesn't understand the interrupt problem on gigabeat S
13:03:04preglowamiconn: interrupt problem+
13:03:06preglow? <-
13:03:22amiconnWhy would it matter whether the interrupts are set up by the OF or its bootloader?
13:03:53preglowno idea
13:04:03GodEater_amiconn: ptw419 speculates that something in the initialisation is stopping us using them
13:04:33GodEater_I thought that if it was the OF doing it, we could remove it from the sequence so that the RB code wouldn't have to find a way around that
13:04:35amiconnIt should work regardless of whether the interrupt controller is completely uninitalised or already initialised, as long as the final setup is correct
13:05:36GodEater_<ptw419> what i should have stated, is that for AVIC to work the mcu must be *responding* to interrupts(which after much much work i can only assume is not happening)
13:05:38amiconnIn fact I would expect it to be *easier* if the interrupt controller is pre-initialised, because then we only need to change the necessary things to get it running, as opposed to doing the complete setup
13:05:57GodEater_ptw419> i think there could be a number of different things w/ the interrupts such as maybe timing, spurious interrupts w/ the OF, interrupt locking from the OF, maybe problems w/ the SCC, or maybe i just didn't get it right :)

13:09:14Gigabeat_F_userHi folks, excellent work on the latest build - one quick q - is there a way to completely clear the current playlist?
13:09:23GodEater_I tried looking at the interrupt code yesterday - but got out of my depth almost immediately when I saw it was all in assembly code
13:09:54GodEater_I've done this much assembley code −−> <−−
13:10:32LloreanGigabeat_F_user: Stop playback (not pause) and the playlist is considered cleared if you then insert something new.
13:10:47Gigabeat_F_userthanks Llorean
13:10:51Gigabeat_F_useralthough
13:11:06Gigabeat_F_userIt is currently running a playlist but it wont stop
13:11:14pixelmaLlorean: I think there was a discussion about folder vs. directory quite a while ago... wasn't a 100% sure of the outcome but thought it could at least be consistent.
13:11:42LloreanGigabeat_F_user: What do you mean? Just press the A button.
13:11:50Gigabeat_F_userLlorean: no such joy
13:11:53markunLlorean: not POWER?
13:11:59LloreanOh, Power.
13:12:03LloreanRight, A is "Pause"
13:12:11pixelmaand I _think_ it really was directory which was preferred here last time
13:12:14DefineByteI'm pretty sure we decided on directory but, hey, times change
13:12:21Gigabeat_F_userneither power nor A stop the playlist

13:12:29markunGigabeat_F_user: what do they do?
13:12:30Lloreanpixelma: So I hear. All I was saying is that my vote goes to "Folder"
13:12:37Gigabeat_F_userthis is on the "Now Playing" screen
13:12:52LloreanGigabeat_F_user: Are you using an official build of Rockbox?
13:12:57*petur reads BOFH and rolls a bit on the floor
13:13:12Gigabeat_F_usermarkun: they light up the screen, but then once the screen is lit they still don't affect the playing of the music
13:13:16DefineBytecertainly if directory confuses Windows users it may be best to go with folder.

18:37:55LloreanjhMikeS: Apparently any time I encode my copy of Blade Runner to any format I tried (really only a few different mpeg2 settings, and mpeg4), the audio was out of sync with the video. Meanwhile, the clean VOB from the DVD was fine, and ffplay even played the .vob fine, and in sync. :( Something for me to figure out I guess.
18:40:16 Part pondlife ("Gone")
18:41:09jhMikeSLlorean: It uses audio timestamps for sync as any mpeg player with audio as time master so if sync is off there it's by far more likely the file.
18:42:03LloreanWell the original file I ripped from my DVD plays fine in ffplay, but when I use ffmpeg to encode it, the output I get is out of sync. It seems really odd.
18:42:12*jhMikeS tried reencoding the 320x240 ED clip with mplayer and it totally botched the sync
18:42:27jhMikeSmencoder even
18:42:52LloreanI transcoded the original 1080p ED with the same settings I tried using for Blade Runner and got a perfectly in sync clip.
18:43:10LloreanAnd a file 2/3 the size of the one hosted on download.rockbox.org
18:43:44jhMikeSAlway use B-frames for better quality and compression too. ED has only I and P.
18:44:10LloreanI'm actually not sure if I'm using bframes.
18:44:38LloreanHey, I wasn't. Hm.
18:44:55jhMikeSWell, it's a copout that makes an encoder look faster but lets it remain technically compliant.
18:45:29LloreanI'm using several settings I have no idea what do.
18:45:46jhMikeSI'd be sure to turn them on though along with frequent GOPs if possible.
18:46:05LloreanThey were recommended for my mpeg4 encoding, and when I tried them with mpeg2 they didn't cause ffmpeg to explode, and lowered the bitrate at the same qscale

I kinda assumed I could copy and paste the parameters I was using elsewhere, and it'd explode on any of them it doesn't like, but considering 4mv is actually marked as "mpeg4" I guess it just ignored them on flags.

23:21:23Topy44i am still thinking around if it is somehow possible to avoid the annoying noise the x5 records during hd-write
23:21:47Topy44(once a minute with wavpack 44khz stereo)
23:22:30Topy44if anyone has any ideas i might try implementing them...
23:23:36bertrikdo you know what causes the noise? it is coupling through the power supply? or is it something like an unused audio input that picks it up?
23:24:22Topy44i believe its a hardware flaw, electrical interference from the harddisk leaking into the adc, but i dont know how specificly (not an expert at that)
23:25:12Topy44however i DID once take apart my x5 and try physicly shielding the hd from the circuit, no change at all, so its not a shielding problem
23:25:24bertrikline-in or mic?
23:25:35Topy44(sorry if my english sucks, its not my native language)
23:25:57Topy44line-in
23:27:03bertrikok sounds like a hardware flaw

23:27:23Topy44yes, so much is sure, as it happens with the original firmware aswell
23:27:35Topy44doesnt mean we cant make a workaround though :)

23:28:53bertrikwhat does the interference sound like, a click, buzz?
23:29:07Topy44i have an isolated recording of it if you want
23:29:12Topy44just a sec, i'll upload it

23:29:33Topy44(you wont hear it at normal volume, but since i usually amplify my recordings afterwards it gets annoying)
23:30:01bertrikto be honest, i think I can't really help you as I don't have the device myself, but at least i can help thinking about /analysing the problem

23:33:54Topy44one possibility i was thinking about - i suggested it about 6 months ago, but didnt get into actually doing anything - would be to try to write at high volumes
23:34:38Topy44as its only audible between tracks or very silent parts

23:38:07H10_007quickBarrywardell: hey I know that you have put alot of effort into the H10 build and getting it off the ground. I have just recently broken my h10 by means of dropping it. It seems the hard drive is not working
23:38:25H10_007quickDo you want it?
23:38:31H10_007quickwould it be of any use to you?

23:39:16Topy44i think it might be quite a trick though, and i would probably be the only person really using it :)
23:39:32Topy44doesnt seem that many people really use the x5 for serious recording
23:40:05H10_007quickbarrywardell: maybe you have an extra hard drive sitting around. I have the 5gb version
