00:06:32Nico_PSlasheri: any thoughts on how to handle AA in the DB?
00:06:48MethoS-I think "gentoo-people" know about the risc of installing 9999-versions (bugs/compiling-errors/etc.). people, who know what 9999 means, know what svn means, so they will be prepared :)
00:07:21DefineByteI don't know what 9999 means xD

02:33:46psycho_maniacbut if you know how to compile you can patch a current buld with the patches you want.
02:33:57Lars_Gbobrules: Now, if you do your own builds, and you've patched the source tree, svn should be able to work the merge automatically almost always
02:34:28bobrulesI don't know anything about programming
02:34:48Lars_GThen you'd have to choose between the patches or the lattest :( sorry
02:34:50scorchepatching isnt necessarily programming
02:35:02Lars_GWell you could do some patching without writing code or having to read it.
02:35:06bobruleshow come current build don't include patches?
02:35:14psycho_maniacthe main reason why i compile my own builds (or used to) is i only wanted one or two simple patches. now i just compile builds for testing.
02:35:26psycho_maniacbecause it overwrites the files the patches edited.
02:35:27Lars_Gscorche: Altough eventually he would confront an incompatibility not solved by svn and that needs to be solved by hand. I've had to do that twice so far.
02:35:29scorcheit does...but they arent patches anymore when they are merged into SVN
02:35:35Lars_Gscorche: and I have few patches applied
02:35:44scorcheLars_G: i said "isnt necessarily"...not "isnt"
02:35:50Lars_Gnod
02:36:18Lars_Gbobrules: because patches are offerings to rockbox that the core team is in no obligation to accept.
02:36:44Lars_Gonce a contribution is acepted, wether in original form, or modified, it becomes part of offitial rockbox, and thus part of the daily builds.
02:37:07Lars_Gotherwise it'd be unwieldy to simply apply every patch out there, not considering many are broken and that some conflict between eachother
02:37:33Lars_GAnd it would also make it harder for core developers to debug the plain rockbox for problems with lots of third party patches in the middle
02:37:56psycho_maniaci would like to see a build with most of the patches in the patch tracker. that would be crazy

02:47:21bwanannanot currently
02:47:31Lars_G... so it's not showing anything?
02:47:33bwanannado i have to start in in disk mode

02:48:04Lars_Gok it hasn't launched the OF then. a little advice, turn on the ipod to rockbox and then connect it to usb
02:48:09Lars_Gright now, disconnect it, and connect it again
02:48:17bwanannak
02:48:28Lars_Gsometimes when you connect the ipod when it's off, rockbox will start but wont switch to the OF which it uses to handle USB
02:48:40Lars_Gsince rockbox has an incomplete USB stack right now, it depends on the OF to connect to the pc

11:27:38AlphaseeI guess, what would be the most cost-effective solution for a replacement?
11:27:45Alphaseethe 50-pin HDDs are expensive.

11:46:36pixelmaI think there was some issue with the "complete installation" - maybe you can install the bootloader and the Rockbox build seperately? And what version of the utility do you have?
11:47:09andsi have the latest version I believe... v1.0.2
11:47:44markunAlphasee: if you run out of idea what to do with your drive you could buy http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-Enclosure-Case-Caddy-for-1-8-ZIF-Hard-Drive_W0QQitemZ190143044958QQihZ009QQcategoryZ74949QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
11:48:29pixelmaands: that's the last available linux version yes - but not the latest
11:48:40andssmall installation gives me the same error.. it looks like it is trying to download rockbox.zip.. and failing
11:49:20andsmight just do the manual installation tmrw :)

14:31:49webguest29its the stock ipod battery so i think 400mah
14:31:55webguest2930gig ipod video 5th gen
14:32:03rasherIs it charged right now?
14:32:11GodEater_500mA should be enough to do that
14:32:35hcsbut do they get that with rockbox?
14:32:41webguest29rasher, it was fully charged when i started doing it...then it died in the middle, and now its on the USB cable and its died 3 times
14:32:53webguest29godeater: i am not sure what the stock battery is
14:32:59rasherWell, maybe the db code just crashes spectacularly.
14:33:00webguest29i thought the stock was only 400..but i may be wrong
14:33:04GodEater_hcs: yes - since the usb stack went in
14:33:11rasherThat usually just results in a non-working db though.
14:33:22webguest29i have tried rebuilding it 4 times now i think
14:33:29hcsGodEater, sorry, out of touch
14:33:52GodEater_hcs: progress is too fast ;)
14:34:52GodEater_webguest29: can you get it to do anything else? If you leave the DB alone, will it play music ok ?
14:35:01cool2bdaveGodEater_: Thanks, I am now having a wee look at SD cards, are all sizes of the SDHC flavour ok too?
14:35:08webguest29yes
14:35:14webguest29its playing a song via the filesystem right now
14:35:42GodEater_cool2bdave: SDHC is the only one you'll find greater than 2GB I believe
14:35:57GodEater_then it sounds more like the database code is crashing your ipod
14:36:01GodEater_not that it's running out of juice
14:36:08webguest29no seriously
14:36:11webguest29its running out of juice
14:36:29webguest29cuz every time it dies it turns on and says "your ipod is really low on battery have to charge before i can fully power on" or some such
14:36:30hcsGodEater: still, I recall the documentation for my iPod color warning that it couldn't maintain heavy disk usage on usb power
14:36:32GodEater_then how is it playing a song ?
14:36:56webguest29godeater: i went thru the file system and actualy selected the song
14:37:00webguest29but i don't want to do that for ever song
14:37:01GodEater_hcs: that sucks then, given it's the only way to get power into them.

14:37:28GodEater_webguest29: that warning is often the result of a bug in apple's firmware. It doesnt' necesarily mean the ipod is low on power.
14:37:37GodEater_esp. if, as you say, the battery was fully charged when you started
14:37:42hcsGodEater: yeah, I think they go into a low speed mode under the apple firmware
14:38:22webguest29and it just died playing the song
14:38:28webguest29and now says "please wait very low battery"
14:38:32webguest29this SUCKS
14:38:36GodEater_hcs: you have evidence to this effect ?
14:39:07GodEater_webguest29: sounds like you need to charge that battery properly
14:39:31webguest29godeater: i was thinking that
14:39:36webguest29i'm still running the stock battery after well over a year
14:39:41webguest29it might be succumbing to problems
14:39:46webguest29but it worked fine on the old apple software
14:39:50GodEater_at least 24 hours of charging - possibly more
14:40:31webguest29k
14:40:36webguest29well its on the charger for the next 24 hours then

14:42:24GodEater_webguest29: it may do if it's suffered from a deep discharge
14:42:25webguest29is it worth it to just pick up a replacement 650maH or 850maH on ebay?
14:42:30hcsGodEater: "Important: While songs, photos, or files are transferred using USB 2.0, the iPod battery loses charge." page 54
14:42:43peturwebguest29: through the device manager
14:42:47hcsGodEater: (of the manual here http://manuals.apple.com/manualsList?config=TDS&model=iPod+Manuals)
14:43:07peturwebguest29: if you do, I recomment batteries from CameronSino
14:43:08GodEater_hcs: I meant the "low speed mode" you referred to
14:43:25webguest29not eforcity?
14:43:37hcsGodEater: then on page 63: "If you transfer a large amount of songs or data using USB 2.0 and the iPod battery is low, iPod will go into power-saving mode. Transfer speeds will slow down considerably. This is normal."
14:43:53webguest29petur: a search on ebay came up with no results for "cameronsino"

14:45:58GodEater_hcs: interesting - I've never had this issue
14:46:05peturwebguest29: looks too cheap to be good ;)
14:46:34GodEater_I wonder if this is because the Apple OF doesn't request 500mA when it's connected to a PC, rather than a charger

14:47:31webguest29woops not chanserv

18:54:42webguest92Llorean: I have no idea.
18:54:49markunwebguest92: the audio needs to be sampled at 44.1kHz
18:54:51Lloreanwebguest92: You converted it yourself, didn't you?
18:55:07webguest92I used some flv to mpeg converter.
18:55:45LloreanWell, you need to make sure the sample rate is set right, as per the PluginMpegplayer wiki page

18:56:44markunpreglow: why do you hate "explain" so much?
