00:11:36LloreanIt should never take more than half an hour even.

00:14:37LloreanLynn_: And this is with a current, official build? All you've done is install the Rockbox build from the main website, then chosen to "Initialize Now" your database?

00:15:22Lynn_and it takes forever
00:15:31Lynn_sure sorry.
00:16:32Lynn_in fact, it keeps freezing up my sansa e280.. I am having to pull the battery a lot.
00:16:46LloreanYou should never have to pull the battery.
00:17:01LloreanHolding power for 15-20 seconds should always be able to shut it down, even if Rockbox is completely locked up.
00:17:17Lynn_ok
00:17:49LloreanIf it's freezing, that's quite important information. Do you know if your MP3s have any odd tags? Extremely long comments, or embedded album art, or lyrics, or anything like that?
00:18:20Lynn_no... they are pretty much from the great oink... great quality and freedsb tags.. most of them or better.
00:18:39Lynn_yes there is album art
00:19:18LloreanI have no idea what you mean by "from the great oink"
00:19:22Lynn_the music is under the default folder which is hidden by the default os sansa uses.
00:19:28linuxstbLlorean: You don't want to know...
00:19:37Lynn_oh.... it was a torrent site which just got shut down.
00:19:41Lynn_invite only great music
00:19:42LloreanYou didn't answer me as to whether the album art is embedded.
00:19:56Lynn_how would it be embedded? I do not understand
00:19:57LloreanAlso, the presence of good tags doesn't mean there aren't additional comment and lyrics tags.
00:20:04LloreanAlbum Art can be stored in an ID3 tag.
00:20:11LloreanThis is called "embedded"
00:20:39Lynn_ahh... then no. my music is under music/(album)/
00:20:40Lynn_that's it

00:21:59LloreanThat's what the database uses, so the condition of these tags, including which ID3 standard was used, can have an affect on the database. It's still known to have problems with not handling unsupported tags gracefully, I believe.
00:22:13Lynn_what do you want me to do. I use foobar, don't really tag the mp3's any different than what I get them. random music some might have embedded tags, and most of them do not.
00:22:24Lynn_ohh.
00:22:37LloreanWell, you're asking how to fix your problem.
00:22:46LloreanI'm asking questions that need to be answered to track down what your problem is.
00:22:49Lynn_ok should I remove all the music from the device?
00:23:11LloreanOne solution is to do a binary search to see if a specific file or set of files is the one causing it to hang or have problems, yes.
00:23:26linuxstbAnd then give us one of those files...

00:24:54Lynn_at the home screen, everything appears to work perfectly, however I have not been able to listen to any music... Maybe I am not selecting the right music option. Even a few of the games I tested worked. Also, when I tried to choose a different theme it would not accept the theme. It remained on the default
00:25:55LloreanIf you select an incompatible theme (one that requires a patched version of Rockbox) this might happen. You may also not have installed the fonts package.
00:27:21LloreanI don't know what you mean by "right music option" though. Playing music is as simple as browsing to the song under files and clicking on it, since you haven't got database working
00:27:46Lynn_i checked the fonts package yesterday, also it seems to almost lock up while I am trying to charge it with usb while I am using it. Is this a common problem?
00:28:25Llorean"Almost lock up" is not very descriptive. What exactly do you mean?
00:29:01Lynn_well, I have to hold the power button for 20 seconds till it shuts down then re power it back up, otherwise the blue light just remains on and nothing happens on the screen.
00:30:16LloreanAnd this happens when you're in Rockbox, hold down the center button, and insert a USB cable?
00:31:02 Quit lee-qid ("aufwiederbyebientotsayonara")
00:31:06Lynn_no just when I insert a usb cable... I was not aware that I had to hold the select button while I was inserting the usb cable.
00:31:41LloreanIf you insert the USB cable, it tries to go into USB mode, but this is buggy still and doesn't work properly. It *should* restart into the original firmware, but this isn't working.
00:31:49LloreanYou must hold down select to tell it not to do this, and just charge.
00:32:50Lynn_the radio works just fine, and after I held down the select button, it is also charging it now. that's probably why its locking up. while reading through the manual it did not say much about the file structure of the music, does it need to be in a specific root folder? can it be in sub folders?
00:33:07LloreanIt can be anywhere.
00:33:15LloreanIt doesn't say anything about it, because it doesn't matter where it is.

06:35:19krazykitif you don't care about the apple firmware, you can just copy it over using explorer or finder or whatever
06:35:25TyroazardAlright
06:35:30TyroazardAnd then use the database thing?
06:36:06TyroazardGah, my video converter can't convert to .mpeg
06:36:11krazykityou pretty much have to if you use itunes to sync music
06:36:21krazykitotherwise,it's up to you
06:36:27TyroazardI have a .mpg and Rockbox refuses to play it
06:37:24krazykityou're sure it's mpeg1 or mpeg2 and of the proper size?
06:37:52TyroazardOh, it has to be the proper size?
06:37:56TyroazardWell.. that kinda sucks.
06:38:48krazykitwell, it can be larger, but it'll be cut off
06:39:02TyroazardSo can Rockbox read .mp4 files?
06:39:07krazykitno
06:39:24LloreanYes, it can read mp4 files. Containing AAC streams.
06:39:28TyroazardAHA!
06:39:31LloreanIt can't read MP4 files containing video.
06:39:38TyroazardI found the mpeg 2/1 conversion
06:39:41Tuplanollahttp://tuplanolla.kicks-ass.org/~jani/tiedostot/vlc.zip <−− there's a very nice videolan player batch script which will convert videos to the right format
06:39:44LloreanMP4 files are not a video format, they're just a container you can put various things in.
06:39:47krazykiti assumed video
06:39:54TyroazardWhat should I convert it to?
06:40:00Tyroazardmpeg 1 or 2?
06:40:50Tuplanollaconvert it with the script i linked, it works at least on sansa :)
06:41:11Tuplanollaif you have something else, you have to modify it a little bit
06:41:57TyroazardOkay.
06:42:01TyroazardAnd to get it to work?
06:42:02TyroazardWait
06:42:07TyroazardI'll just open up the batch
06:42:12Tuplanollayou need to have VLC player installed
06:42:18TyroazardAh
06:42:20TyroazardI see.

12:55:20amiconnwoot! The greylib seems to work nicely. Tested on recorder so far
12:57:15amiconnOf course it's slower than the old graylib at low bit depths (cube.rock with solid is twice as slow - this used the old graylib with only 4 shades), but that's expected
12:57:18pixelmaMrKeuner: when you enter the recording screen from the radio (via "recording" in the radio menu, the source seems to be set to radio automatically even though you can have it set differently in the global recording settings). 16:52:37conandobtw LLorean: thanks for tipping me of in direction of i-frame only mpeg2.. works great if you require high quality video (and trade it for much lower compression) so i won't have to try to implement something like an mjpeg player myself ;)
16:52:44pondlifeShould also help the playlist viewer, right?

19:50:04floelehi everyone. I have a problem with my rockbox on Ipod 5.5. The playback of in particular higher bitrate files (FLAC) is "skippy", but not all the time. It often happens if rockbox continues playback on startup, and only seems to happen very rarely after it has been playing for a while. The reason seems to be a lot of hard disc activity (which continues for a couple of minutes even when I pause the current track, you can hear the disc working),

20:14:07floeleLambdaCalculus37: done, same problem. as soon as I started the track, rockbox doesn't stop reading from the disc, and causes skips
20:15:35floeleeven the pause button doesn't work correctly. it fades out, but then continues playing...
20:15:41floelewitn full volumne
20:16:04LambdaCalculus37floele: So I guess you've got Fade on Stop/Pause turned on, correct?
20:16:05floelenot working correctly during such a "skip phase". usually it works.
20:16:11floeleright

20:29:18amiconnNow you can play doom on h1x0 or greyscale ipods and actually recognise things (and enemies)
20:29:52floeleLambdaCalculus37: I just tried to change the theme. switched from slant to icatcher and it seems to work. might album arts be a problem? migght rockbox search all existing directories for such files (without the need to)?
20:30:42LambdaCalculus37floele: Maybe, but I'm use Cabbie 2.0 with album art and I have no problems.
20:30:58LambdaCalculus37But yes, album art may be causing problems.

20:33:18rconanpixelma, seems to be a problem between 15984 and 15988
20:34:17amiconnThere's a general problem on PP5002 targets (ipod 1st..3rd gen). Some builds work, some don't
20:34:26LambdaCalculus37floele: Here ya go: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/viewfile/Main/WpsIpod5g?rev=6;filename=cabbiedefipodvid.zip
20:34:41floelescreenshot as well?
20:35:01amiconnThis has nothing to do with what was changed in that build, but just depends on the fact that *something* changed and moved stuff around in memory
20:35:19amiconnUnfortunately we don't know yet why that happens
20:36:00amiconnThe good thing is that a build either works, or crashes almost instantly. Nothing inbetween

21:45:22LambdaCalculus37amiconn: I know a little bit of German, but judging from the pics on the auction, the seller's including screen protectors, the necessary cables, the LCD remote, and a case. Can you confirm?

21:46:59GodEater_which means the registers are documented in the eCos code

21:49:02GodEater_who cares?
21:49:19LambdaCalculus37amiconn: Actually, the Karma used the same Hitachi hard drive the H10 20GB used.
21:49:19GodEater_he says the 5003 is really really similar to the 502x series
21:49:23zekarma's hd is an odd form-factor... its not the same 2.5" as what ipods use

22:42:05webguest88Hi, after installing rockbox on my Sansa E280 I can't access the files on the Sansa any more. When I connect the Sansa via my cable and the USB port, the Windows PC nevertheless doesn't recognize the device. any idea what I could do now?
22:42:32JdGordon|wyou cant connect to the computer while rockbox is running
22:43:19webguest88I do that but the sansa does only switch to the old firmware but in a mode which is not recognizable for windows
22:45:03webguest88Now I would like to uninstall rockbox but the sansapatcher doesn't work because the system doesn't recognize my sansa E280.
22:47:39JdGordon|whold << while booting up the sansa and make sure its still set to connect in MSC mode
